Different types of hydraulic control valves are designed to accomplish different tasks as components of hydraulic systems. Stop Valves The purpose of a stop valve is to allow hydraulic fluid to flow easily while maintaining the ability to restrict or stop flow either mechanically or electronically. Stop valves are also capable of diverting flow to one or more directions. Check Valves The purpose of a check valve is to force hydraulic fluid to flow one way through the use of a spring-loaded stop. Check valves are especially useful for preventing a back flow of fluid in the event of a leak or loss of pressurization. Pressure Reducing Valves A type of check valve, pressure reducing valves allow for pressure relief in larger hydraulic systems. As fluid flows down a length of pipe its pressure will naturally increase. Pressure reducing valves allow additional pressure to bleed off, maintaining uniform pressure throughout the system.
